Day 3: We are eternally secure.
Today, it is best for me to rely upon the Scriptures for our meditation. There are simply so many of them to support today’s reason for Thanksgiving! Let’s take a moment and soak in what the Word of God says to us about our eternal security in Christ.
Scripture: “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” (John 10:28-29 ESV)
Jesus gives us eternal life and He is the one who preserves it.
Scripture: “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” (Ephesians 4:30)
Once we come unto salvation in Jesus, we are sealed with His Spirit.
Scripture: “…that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
It is not keeping all of God’s law that we are saved. It is not by doing good works that we are saved. But rather by faith in Jesus’ substitutionary death on the cross on our behalf that gives us eternal life.
Scripture: “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:32)
If we love God and are saved through Christ, everything in our lives is worked for good. We cannot lose our eternal security, even if we momentarily stumble.
Scripture: “For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” (Romans 11:29)
Salvation is a gift from God. Gifts are never taken back by the giver. Therefore, God’s free gift of salvation cannot be taken back. It is freely given and freely received.
Scripture: “…in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began…” (Titus 1:2)
God does not lie. If He has given us the hope and gift of eternal life, it is so.
Scripture: “No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or know him.” (1 John 3:6)
True believers have been made new in Christ. Instantly at conversion, they are forgiven, justified, and given Christ’s righteousness. They are regenerated. But they will spend the rest of their lives being sanctified. This is where the sinful nature they were born with is worked out by the Holy Spirit as they become aware of their sin, confess it, and repent. If they never give evidence of a changed heart through repentance, they were never saved.
Scripture: “They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us. “ (1 John 2:19)
People who appear to walk away from the faith, show that they were never truly converted in the first place.
Scripture: “You will recognize them by their fruits…” (Matthew 7:16)
True believers in Christ Jesus bear his nature and do his works. They do not do it perfectly all the time, but they do bear the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control. They pray to the Father, know the Scriptures, fellowship with other believers, help those in need, and make more disciples.
Scripture: “…you have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God.” (Romans 7:4)
As believers, we are dead to sin. We no longer can continue in it without remorse. Our true identity is not in our old man, who we used to be in our sin. But rather our true identity and delight is found in Jesus. We long to be like Him. And when we are in Him, we experience our greatest satisfaction and joy.
Scripture: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” (John 10:27-30)
It is only through Jesus that we can find eternal life. When we become saved in Christ, our soul will never perish. Though our physical bodies may pass away, our spirit will live on forever with Jesus and the Father. Nothing and no one can disrupt this plan, because it belongs to God and He is “greater than all.”
Scripture: “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)
Again, nothing and no one can disrupt God’s plan to save us nor keep us from His love found in Christ.
Scripture: “So he told them this parable: ‘What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.” (Luke 15: 3-7)
God desires that all of mankind come unto salvation and experience eternal security in Him. Hear His voice today, and respond with “Yes, Lord!”
Scripture: “Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy,” (Jude 2)
God is the one responsible for the security of the salvation offered to us through his son Jesus. Jesus is our guarantor. He was perfect in every way and without any blemish or sin. His death was given freely on the cross as the perfect sacrifice to atone for our sins. When we confess and believe this truth, we are saved and kept eternally secure by what Jesus did for us. It’s not what we do, but what He did that keeps us blameless and secure for all eternity.
That is the reason to offer shouts of praise and countless songs of thanksgiving today!! Never has there been and never will there be another reason so worthy of our acknowledgment and thanksgiving to God!
We are eternally secure if we are in Christ Jesus! We do not ever have to worry about our lives, because He has secured them! He stewards them and graciously works for good all the details of our lives after conversion. What a tremendous truth to think about!
Praise to You God for Your extravagant gift of eternal salvation!! Praise to You Jesus for your merciful and gracious gift of atonement for our sins on the cross!! Thank you, Holy Spirit, that we are not alone and that You are working with us every day to live worthy of the calling the Father has given us!! We thank you and worship You today!!
